AMBHER at JRC/HaDEA workshop
Our project coordinator, A. Thomas, took part in the two-day RMSI Workshop, co-hosted by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) and Directorate D of the Joint Research Centre (JRC). The event took place in Brussels, bringing together representatives from European institutions, industry, and academia under a high-level agenda.
A. Thomas had the opportunity to present our AMBHER project. The workshop addressed several key topics, including:
- Closing the EU’s innovation gap
- Balancing sustainability and competitiveness in the critical raw materials sector
- Assessing the needs and shortcomings of the EU policy context (Critical Raw Materials Act, Steel and Metals Action Plan, etc.)
- Leveraging the RMIS to help industry scale up research initiatives and projects
The opening speech was delivered by Alessandra Zampieri, Director for Sustainable Resources, who thanked HaDEA for its fruitful collaboration and underlined the pivotal role of the Raw Materials Information System (RMIS). She emphasized its importance in strengthening Europe’s autonomy and competitiveness in the strategic raw materials sector — a sentiment echoed in President von der Leyen’s State of the Union address, calling this “Europe’s independence moment” and stressing the need to “take control over the technologies and energies that will fuel our economies.”
At the end of the 2-day workshop that featured a series of technical sessions and focused roundtables, participants expressed great satisfaction in the highly productive interactions and welcomed the opportunity to network. Across all the discussions, it was apparent that the RMIS is recognised by policymakers and stakeholders as a reference knowledge-hub on raw materials, providing coherent, quality-assured, and easily accessible data & analyses — ensuring that decisions on critical raw materials are informed, transparent, and future-oriented.
